Calling all Canadians! Searching for Canadian Scenery pictures for a YouTube Video.  I am one of 45 Artists across Canada that have donated a song to a Christmas CD Project for the Canadian Troops. I am building a YouTube Video for the project and am seeking pictures from Canadians to insert into the video.  If you would like to submit a photo for consideration please email it to christmasSalute@gmail.com on/before Friday, November 8, 2013.

I am not providing details of the picture requirements (other than the picture must be clear); I am looking for pictures of Canadian Scenery and IF you wish: shouting out a Christmas Salute-Message to the Troops that are receiving the CD. I look forward to your pictures and if you are feeling creative: your interpretation of saying Merry Christmas to our Troops serving around the world, those recovering in military hospitals and to the loved ones of those serving their country. We also welcome donations to print additional copies - details are below in the project Press Release:

Christmas From Home
45 Canadian Musical Artists bring Christmas to the Troops
Ajax, Ontario, October 2013:  Anne Murray, The Good Brothers, Jason McCoy and newcomer Tim Hicks lead off an impressive collaboration of musicians that include East (Rik Reese) to West (Sabrina Weeks) representation on a Christmas CD created specifically to Support the Troops.

Since 2004, The Lady and Oldtoad Gil have been asking artists to donate a song to be included on a “Support the Troops” CD which is distributed free of charge to Servicemen (and Women) serving both at home and abroad. This year marks the first ever 2 CD set of all original songs, written and performed by Canadian Artists to bring a bit of “Home” to our troops during the Holiday season.

These CD’s are distributed free of charge, to troops serving all around the world, to those recovering in military hospitals and to the loved ones of those serving their country. At this time, there are only 5,000 copies available to share and copies will be mailed out as quickly as possible.

For copies (they are restricted to military members only) please send an email, including your full name and mailing address to: christmasfromhome@gmail.com

If you are interested in sponsoring this project please contact us at the email address above or by going to our Facebook Page at: www.facebook.com/theladyandoldtoadgil

Thank you to the many wonderful artists that gave permission for us to include their songs on the 2013 Christmas from Home CD – we look forward to seeing you out there!
Submit your photo for the YouTube Video to ChristmasSalute@gmail.com by Friday, November 8th.

Colin Graham of Netty Mac, Neil Peart of Rush and Courtney Morse - WHAT A RUSH!!

We had an absolutely HUGE weekend at Big Als in YYC and I wanted to share with you all the power AND passion of Indie Fans! I found Courtney Morse; an amazing aspiring Artist, while I was at the East Coulee Spring Festival in May and asked her if she would like to come out and open a show for me. I thought she was going to fall down right then right there! lol She was genuinely stoked and just so full of life and excitement; it truly did make my day.  Courtney opened both Friday and Saturday night and the Netty Mac Train went ballistic! It was the first time ever that I was asked by the Fans if I would please bring my opening act back AND have then sing more songs next time. I have to say that a piece of my ego was "what the heck? you want to hear her and not me?"...I am joking but that ego did rear it's ugly head for a frogs-hair of a second. lol (and frogs don't have hair - that's how small it was. he he he) Music Fans ROCK! I am a huge music fan and get it, so ensure that as an Artist my Fans know I love them as much as they love me.  'They' also saw this trait in Courtney. I said it at the show and I will say it again - get her autograph because it is going to be a HUGE story and worth a fortune one day! She truly has the gift to make it in the music business and The Train saw and appreciated that to a great extent.

The show on Saturday was in particular HUGE as I and my new band completely nailed it! Personally I put on my best Entertainer Performance EVER and am very proud.  Colin Graham, my drummer took the entire place by complete surprise with his drum solo on Friday so I thought it would be great to record the performance Saturday. Well! Here it is:

I was so blown away by Colin's stamina! I am also so proud of my Band! Mark Stauffer - Lead Guitar, John Stalgitis - Bass, Colin Graham - Drums.  The 3rd set intro was top-notch pro and the crowd ate it right up!! I giggled right from the tummy when a fan walked up to me while Colin was ripping his solo and asked me if he played with Rush. I mean, I didn't want to be rude or anything; but I couldn't help but giggle. I told her I would make sure to tell him about the HUGE compliment. I have to say at the end of the day, it is an amazing feat to put on an extended drum solo and have it be entertaining. I am sure you could hear the hollering and whistles in the background when you watched Colins video. That ROCKS when that happens!

I look forward to taking The Netty Mac Train to the level that the Rush Fan was referring to in the very near future! I can't wait to have the stage in this next video and KUDO's to the greatest (in my humble opinion) Rock Drummer of all time, I think I know how Geddy Lee of Rush feels:

Ray Charles improvised his way to Super Star

Today on February 18, 1959 Ray Charles put his name on the map.  Ray was playing a gig and ripped through his set list and still had time to play but no songs left (I have so been there!) so he decided to improvise. He jammed out a song and his amazing band and backup singers just went with the wind and the crowd went crazy! The crowd was so overwhelming that Ray went to his producer after the show and advised that he wanted to record the song. Well, it was history in the making as it was that song that just came out of nowhere: 'What I'd Say' that catapulted Ray Charles to mainstream radio and subsequent international stardom. Here is the vid - the energy on and off stage is so captivating for me:

Ray Charles is a household name I am certain of that. I have been a fan of his music for as long as I can remember. In writing this blog today I learned that it was Ray and this very song; 'What I'd Say' that evolved to become the new Soul Music Genre.  How kewl that a song that transpired out of sheer improvisation took Ray Charles music to the world and also created a new genre? I would venture as to say that this feat would be just short of a miracle to happen today. When I get Netty Mac out there to the world, wouldn't it be kewl to create the genre Country Rock 'n Roll?

Ray Charles has that star quality about him that I absolutely adore. The way he moves, speaks and performs moves me HUGE! Really though, look at the charisma in this picture. I would have to say that my favorite all-time song of Ray Charles song would have to be 'You Are My Sunshine' - Ray is the KING of making cover songs his own!! His version is so 'bounce in yer bum' material. I have also taken this song and NettyFIED it. It is about 250 beats per minute! lol I have such a blast performing 'You Are My Sunshine'. I actually call out in the mic prior to performing: 'Would anyone out there like to make me a bet that every single person in this room knows the words to this next song? That's right; it don't matter if you still smell like pee or if you are blue hair - everyone knows this next song..." Folks in the crowd always laugh at my 'pee' expression. he he he - I have to admit that it always makes me giggle a bit too.  I will record my version of the song in the very near future, however in the interim here is Ray's kik-buttox version and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do:

The People Game - AKA for today: The Elephant and Dog Game

It has been a very long time since I Blogged and I intend to keep it up every 2-3 days. I didn't realize how much I missed it! Today's message is very simple and short and it relates to my song
The People Game:  CLICK THIS LINK TO LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE GAME

My Find 4U: This has to be one of the best newscasts I have EVER seen.  The content unto its own is amazing and fills my heart right up to the brim. Also, I love the journalist' line: "Take a good look America, Take a good look WORLD - if they can do it - WHAT'S OUR EXCUSE?"  My song on the Album: The People Game has a very similar message. We are all playing the People Game daily - I will try to remember Tara and Bella when I face confrontation or difficult situations and remember if they can do it - I most certainly can! Talk about Polar Opposites!
